Head Toward College believes that all students should have access to the support and advice of those who understand college selection and admissions processes. We recognize that students have the support of caring professionals through their school counseling departments, yet understand that those departments are often overwhelmed, underfunded, and drastically understaffed. In fact, in a recent report, the National Association for College Admissions Counselors found that there is an average ratio of 482 high school students to every one school counselor. Our mentors work closely with local schools to not replace,
but supplement the work they are doing.
Over the past two years, Head Toward College has reached over 20 students in the Greater Boston Area through summer workshops and individual counseling. Our students have received acceptances to Vanderbilt, UMass Amherst and Lowell, Castleton State College, Framingham State University, Middlebury College, University of Tennessee, Fairfield College, George Washington University, Northeastern University and the University of Vermont.
Our work does not end when our students graduate high school. Our mentors follow our students through their time at their chosen college or university, offering continued support
